A.W. Perry Honors & Remembers S. Maxwell Beal

The A.W. Perry team is mourning the loss of our friend, Past President and Past Chairman Emeritus, S. Maxwell Beal, Jr.  Sandy as he was known to the A.W. Perry family passed away peacefully on November 17, 2021.  Sandy was a dedicated father, husband, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and an exceptional leader in the Greater Boston real estate and business community.

Always the best dressed, he will be remembered by his perfectly placed boutineer and bowties.  His affinity for American history was rivaled only by his love of family history and tradition- anyone who has ever sat alongside him understands this.  A graduate of St. Lawrence University, Max went on to lead an eventful career in commercial real estate where he served on the Downtown Crossing Association (Treasurer), Massachusetts Association of Realtors (Vice President) and the youngest President on record for the Greater Boston Real Estate Board.  He eventually retired as President of the family business, A.W. Perry after almost 40 years, but stayed involved in the business until his death.

Sandy joined A.W. Perry in 1956 as a young man after graduating from St. Lawrence and serving proudly as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Despite being a member of the family, Herbert Perry put Sandy to work on the ground, reading meters, selling electricity, and running payroll.

Sandy left A.W. Perry for a period in the 70’s but returned and brought a renewed energy and focus on upgrading A.W. Perry downtown Boston portfolio.   Sandy’s contribution to the City of Boston and our business lives on today, especially in his pride and joy – The Berkeley Building.  As a long-time colleague recently shared “it is hard to separate his life from the firm’s history”.  Sandy showed passion and dedication to A.W. Perry’s business every day of his life, we are all grateful for his many contributions to the company and his legacy lives on and he will be greatly missed by all.

One of Sandys’ proudest moments was seeing his son Rich take the helm as the first 5th generation leader of the company.   He loved Rich and spoke often of how proud he was of Rich’s family and professional accomplishments.

Please join us as we keep Sandy’s family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, November 21, 4 – 8 pm, at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street, Hingham. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 22, 10 am, Hingham Congregational Church, 366 Main Street, Hingham. Burial to follow. Donations may be made in Max’s memory with The Home For Little Wanders or Mass General Pediatric Oncology. https://www.downingchapel.com/obituary/SumnerMaxwell-BealJr

A.W. Perry Partners With Novoya To Purchase 250,000 SF At Former Garelick Farms Site Along Lynn Waterfront

A.W. Perry, a real estate investment, development, and services firm, in partnership with Novaya Real Estate Ventures, announced that they have purchased 626 and 680 Lynnway Road and 0 Circle Avenue in Lynn, Massachusetts. Known as the former Garelick Farms plant, the 250,000 square foot industrial facility on the Lynnway and the 10 acre parcel at 0 Circle Avenue were acquired today from Dean Foods.

“We believe there is tremendous potential for the site, given all that Lynn has to offer, including new planned development along the waterfront, the proximity to amenities and thriving businesses both in Downtown Lynn and on The Lynnway, and the short distance to downtown Boston,” said Bob Maloney, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Acquisitions, A.W. Perry.

Now called Lynnway Park, the property is able to accommodate a variety of uses including warehouse, food processing, preparation and storage, light industrial and biomanufacturing in the near term.  The facility includes over 60,000 square feet of cold storage. In the future, there is potential for a mixed-use development and possible life science and medical manufacturing.  The parcel is part of the City of Lynn’s Waterfront Master Plan, a framework for planning and development along the waterfront which includes several parcels of land along the Lynnway.

“We are thrilled that A.W. Perry is the new owner of the former Garelick Site. They have a long successful history and we are looking forward to working on a short and long term use of this very important site” said James M. Cowdell the Executive Director of Economic Development for the City of Lynn.

“We would like to thank the Mayor, the City Council and Lynn’s Economic Development Director who have worked with us over the last year.  We are enthusiastic about the possibilities and look forward to working with the City and the community on planning the future of this asset,” said Susan O’Day, President, A.W. Perry. “We at A.W. Perry are long term holders of our properties and this will be no exception. This is a continuation of a new strategic direction for the company to expand our presence in Boston’s key submarkets.

“We are enthusiastic to be partnering with A.W. Perry on this transaction. We believe this property is very well positioned to capitalize on the current needs in the industrial market, and we see significant upside in the future redevelopment of the property,” Peter Carbone, Principal and CIO, Novaya Real Estate Ventures.

Cushman and Wakefield represented the seller and procured the buyer in the transaction.
